Celebrating Innovative Young African Entreprenuers
Rebecca Andrianarisandy
The production of charcoal leads to significant deforestation in rural
Madagascar – and burning charcoal releases gases with further potential
harm to communities. In 2016, Rebecca and her co-founders set out
to address these concerns. The result is GasGasy, an effective business
solution that sells biofuel and bio-slurry – which serves as both a fertilizer
and insecticide.
These products offer a meaningful alternative to further environmental
destruction, and have led to GasGasy receiving numerous accolades for
its potential financial success and impact upon its community including
winning the Who’s Next Tana award. The team envisions expanding the
project to additional sites for production and sales, further increasing job
opportunities. They seek to investment in compressors to expand their
ability to sell biofuel products.
With Rebecca and her team’s vision to integrate environmentally-conscious
decisions in their savvy business model, they may have found a sustainable
solution to address deforestation in Madagascar.
