Celebrating Innovative Young African Entreprenuers
Satta Wahab
In November 2016, over 100 young women and girls gathered for Curlfest.
Organized by Satta’s company Naz Naturals, women from across Liberia
gathered to share tips, stories and songs about their natural hair. Satta’s
vision is that her hair product company can empower young African
women to be confident in their natural beauty. Curlfest was a powerful
demonstration of the sisterhood Satta is building.
Satta has been passionate about facilitating the empowerment of women
through numerous volunteering efforts. With SMART Liberia, she helped
develop training for young women to become leaders of their schools and
communities. At the Paramount Young Women’s Initiative, she continued to
learn about the issues affecting young women. While interning at the Liberia
Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, she travelled to meet rural
women and see their challenges first-hand. Satta’s experience working and
learning from disadvantaged women inspired her commitment to promote
women’s self-esteem.
Naz Naturals is just starting. There are ambitious growth plans for this
natural beauty brand. As her company continues to grow, Satta is committed
to her social mission by using 10% of profits to fund programs for women’s
empowerment.
