Kondwani Banda

Kondwani is a media and communications major at the University of Zambia. A natural born storyteller, Kondwani found her calling in the media and went on to found The Mainstream, a digital magazine that aims to tell authentic African stories. Since inception in 2016, the magazine has accrued a community of 500 registered subscribers and a social media following of 15,000 users.

Having noticed that most news outlets in Zambia were focused on reporting hard news, Kondwani decided to pursue a different niche by covering culture, entertainment and human interest stories as the main focus of the magazine. This strategy has attracted a large and engaged following of young people to her platform.

As she looks to the future, Kondwani hopes to pioneer several new publications that are sector specific and aimed at providing value to targeted audiences. She hopes to launch magazines focused on business and entrepreneurship, tourism, and teenage lifestyle content. In addition, she plans to pursue several multimedia ventures including television and podcasting.
